Hey all! I haven't wrote a blog for a couple months, so here it is! I am about halfway through my marathon training and am now feeling in the best shape of my life, but it has not come easy!
A few weeks into my training, I would go on short runs and my legs would feel like lead, my pace was slowing down, I was short of breath and just didn't feel right... I felt like I was hitting a wall. I knew in my mind I needed to push through it b/c of the weeks ahead I had in training, but while you're going through that feeling it's hard to imagine pushing through it, BUT I did...
I started increasing my miles right before we went on vacation in July to Myrtle Beach. Also I was so blessed to be able to take 2 weeks off with my family, in which I of course did some training there as well. Below is a pic of me and my dad and one of me and my sis after training runs along Ocean Ave down in Surfside Beach, SC. Great training motivation!
I think going on vacation and just letting go for a couple weeks and the refreshing it did for me has helped a lot with my training. I did train a lot in the heat down there but just being in that environment gave me the push I needed to get through this training, which I'm so excited about!
We had a great vacation, it was Ashlynn's first time to the beach and we got to spend some precious memories with my mom's side of the family, including celebrating my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary. I could not ask for better role models as my family has all been to me. I've been so fortunate to grow up in a Christian family and have the values and morals that have been placed in my life as they have. Below is a pic of my grandparents and a few from our vacation!
From Myrtle Beach we got to go to Fernandina Beach, FL for about 5 days to visit my bro in law and sis in law...we did some Beach time, shopping and relaxing! And of course I did more hot training runs...
Ashlynn got to spend some time with her Uncle Chris and Aunt Katy!
SO.....Now, back to reality. Early morning runs back home, back to work, loving my life. I'm so lucky and blessed to have my little family. I have a husband who has been more supportive with my training schedule and work schedule and who is an AMAZING dad. I love you Nicholas RAY!!!!
I am up to this week being my longest run yet...14 miles. I've never ran over 13.1, so I'm excited, nervous and pumped all at the same time. I will continue to blog along the way of my journey to the 26.2...STAY TUNED and HEALTHY!

Keep it up girl. This is big accomplishment that few can claim.
ReplyDeleteMelissa, keep up the good training! Never, ever, think you cant do something you set your mind to! You have come a long way on your running for sure! This is a big year for you, completing your first triathlon also! Keep pushing, dont back down, never quit!
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work. The early morning runs when you don't feel like getting out of bed, hot training runs, and when your body feels fatigued will soon pay off when your standing on the start line in downtown Chicago next to thousands of runners when your pounding down the miles and when you cross the finish line accomplishing something that most people will never accomplish. I'm proud of how far you have came. Can't wait to be there to celebrate! Love you
